Perthshire Farmhouse

Woldon have recently completed the renovation and extension of a residential Farmhouse, a traditional rural property set within Pertshire. The project reimagines the existing farmhouse with sensitivity and precision, enhancing its historic character while adapting it for contemporary family life. The design introduces a new double-height living space at the heart of the home, created by removing the constrained upper floor. A new bedroom wing extends to the rear, linked by a modest stairwell that unites the original farmhouse with its modern addition.

Key interventions include raising the rear roof to form a gable end, introducing a tall east-facing window to draw in natural light, and refining the farmhouse envelope with repaired slate roofing and high-performance hybrid windows. Together, these elements combine traditional craftsmanship with modern efficiency.

Externally, a landscaped courtyard defines the transition between house and garden, offering a sheltered setting framed by stone retaining walls and steps leading to the lawn beyond. The proposals build upon previously consented design principles and have been informed by a collaborative team including Galbraith Group, All Ecology, and Narro Associates. Rooted in the local landscape and its architectural heritage, the project secures the farmhouse’s future as a refined, enduring home that balances the rural and the contemporary.
