Cheshire Venue Building
An estate masterplan and concept designs for a new 750sqm venue building at a Grade I listed country house.
The new building is located on a former stable yard site to house a wedding business along with corporate and charity events. A substantial hall lies at the centre of the proposals, a brick clad building beneath clay tiled roofs with patterned brick chimneys providing a playful silhouette. Full-height steel-framed glazing opens-out from the principal hall onto a landscaped courtyard, while upper gables contain louvred glazing overlooking the landscaped grounds.
The designs evolved from extensive historic analysis of the house and site to understand its evolution and character. Special emphasis was placed on use and flow around the house and grounds to inform the proposed masterplan, with consideration for pedestrians, traffic, and servicing requirements.
The arrangement of existing programmes and strict operational requirements presented several limitations and opportunities for the design which are harnessed in the proposed layout. A substantial amount of site information was gathered to manage risk and assist in the development of a robust construction cost budget.
Woldon took part in a successful charette, engaging the local community in constructive dialogue in relation to the proposals and wider estate development objectives.
