Cotswolds Destination Spa Hotel

Set within the Cotswolds, a former quarry site presents a rare opportunity for thoughtful regeneration within a sensitive rural landscape. Once a place of industry and local employment, the quarry has long shaped its surroundings through extraction and craft. The Estate’s vision seeks to honour this legacy while reimagining the site as a vibrant and sustainable destination for the future.

Woldon Architects have worked closely with the Estate to develop proposals that draw from the site’s industrial heritage, establishing a distinct vernacular architecture rooted in context.

The design approach celebrates the relationship between landform, materiality and memory, restoring the landscape while carefully embedding new structures within it.

The scheme proposes a blend of hospitality and workspace, creating an environment where hotel and spa facilities coexist with flexible commercial spaces. This balance supports both leisure and enterprise, providing a sustainable hospitality offering grounded in the natural environment alongside opportunities for regenerative commerce.

Architecture and landscape are conceived as one. The restored quarry terrain informs the layout and character of the development, with buildings emerging from the contours of the site. Materials and forms respond to the industrial past while meeting contemporary standards of environmental performance and comfort.

By bringing together tourism, wellbeing and enterprise within a renewed setting, the proposal seeks to strengthen the rural economy and establish a forward looking model of sustainable development that celebrates natural, manmade and human capital in equal measure.
