Barney O’Dowd, Cotswolds Director

BArch (Hons), MArch, PgDip RIBA

Our Cotswold Director, Barney, brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience from working previously in London and Gloucestershire practices. His architectural experience covers residential, hospitality, leisure and education, with expertise in heritage sectors.

Barney has comprehensive experience in planning, technical and construction stages on both new build and sensitive heritage schemes. Before joining Woldon, Barney was an Associate in leading London practice. Notably, he was responsible for securing planning for the extension and remodel of a Grade II listed hotel in Hatfield. He has led the delivery of several schools, dwellings and hotel projects, including a hotel and restaurant renovation in Ascot, which was shortlisted for AJ retrofit awards 2019.

Barney has an eye for modern detailing in heritage contexts and sensitively considered contemporary architecture. His commercial awareness and solid construction experience are of great value when resolving both the ambitions of the client and complexities of a given site. A great asset to the Cotswold’s team, Barney brings a creative energy with the expertise to deliver beautiful buildings which are built to stand the test of time.

Conservation

At Woldon we are passionate about historic buildings, their settings and stories. We enjoy working with skilled craftspeople who have the knowledge and expertise to bring our designs to life. Our approach successfully balances respect for the historic setting and the impact of change, with the creation of value for our clients and users.

By developing an understanding of the heritage significance of historic buildings within a cultural context, we prepare strategies to manage sustainable futures, meet contemporary goals, while maintaining authenticity and meaning.

Harnessing our knowledge – and that of specialist partners when required – we recognise the unique characteristics of our architectural heritage and allow this understanding to inform our design proposals. Woldon recognises that the way in which historic buildings function, are maintained and enhanced is critical to their sustainability.
