Cotswolds Country Estate
Woldon has completed the construction of a new residence and landscaping within an 18th-century Cotswolds farmstead, following the successful securing of planning permission. The project forms part of a considered approach to estate-led regeneration, carefully integrating a contemporary building within a historic setting comprising a stone threshing barn, cottage, and stables arranged around a traditional yard and kitchen garden.
Drawing on the seventeenth-century farmhouse vernacular, the design features a three-storey central structure beneath steeply pitched gabled roofs clad in Cotswold stone tiles. A two-storey southern extension accommodates principal spaces while strengthening the building’s relationship with the landscaped grounds and ha-ha, ensuring that the house sits harmoniously within the wider estate. Single-storey elements are strategically composed to house service areas, minimising visual impact and preserving the character of the surrounding landscape.
Internally, contemporary details such as natural clay plaster flow throughout the house, creating a crafted, warm, and cohesive atmosphere. The interior architecture draws on a rich range of inspirations, from William and Mary timber-panelled stairs in the double-height hall to Arts and Crafts plaster motifs in the reception rooms.
A Ground Source Heat Pump system provides sustainable heating to all buildings on the estate, supplied from dedicated plant space within the outbuildings.
Designed in collaboration with Askew Nelson Landscape Architecture and Guy Goodfellow Interiors, the house was completed in Easter 2022.
